S., a girl from “our” Shapla girls' home, didn't come back from visiting her mother when expected. When we didn't hear from her, we tried to contact her mother. The next day we got a call from the local police saying they had picked up the child. Her mother had secretly married her off, and she had tried to run away. Together with the police we were able to resolve the situation. Because the mother has another small child, we made sure she didn't go to prison, as that would have done more harm than good. The girl is now back with us at the home, and contact with her mother is supervised. Also in the photo: our volunteer Nora from Switzerland.
